thoughts are things

I feel awkward when I am misunderstood. Sometimes it feels awkward when I think of what it would be like to see my book finished and presented to the world for all to see. It feels weird to see my name on the book and know that it will be right there on Amazon and Barnes and Noble for everyone to see. BUT when I read it to that one kid I don’t feel awkward. I feel the exact opposite as a matter of fact. It would feel awkward running into someone I haven’t see in a long time. What will they think of me? When I’m feeling a breeze against my check and an idea for a new project, awkwardness fades and I don’t care….good night.

paint brush? Johnny tree…

(just going to be reviewing some of my favorite trees for the wise trees book while I make exciting changes?)

with tempera paint and a little watercolor.appletree

I’m so proud of this tree and all that it stands for. I mean Johnny Appleseed is this guy who had an awesome dream and with just one seed…just one idea he changed the world. The more I think about it the crazier it seems. He traveled by foot all over for MILES AND MLES just planting seeds. Today I can drink apple juice. Oh and I did just that the other day. In a bagel shop I bought a Martinelli’s apple juice, yes the kind that comes in a apple shaped glass. From the smile to the childhood memory to the thirst quenching on a hot spring day, I thank Johnny.  Now that I realize it every single seed I spread always made a difference. The moment I realized this oh my whole world changed. Every dream is worth exploring and walking MILES AND MILES FOR no matter how crazy it seems. I say if it sounds crazy then maybe your on to something big.

I can hardly believe that my book is near completion. I’m so proud of this book.

notes:

  • use the bottom of a round craft sponge brush to get this awesome pattern
  • imagine what happens when I find extraordinary ways to use ordinary objects
  • use tempera paint
  • used watercolor for the apples but probably should of went with tempera or acrylic
  • layer light to dark when stamping
  • as you stamp think about the story and let color tell it.
  • just stamp and see what patterns emerge ( I stamped a heart)
  • dark color for the leaves
  • choose a shape for the leaves that symbolize togetherness, earth and so much more so yes a circle seems fine
  • love your design and share it.
  • create awesome contrast (light tree trunk and beautiful vibrant color for the leaves)

Imagine all the impossibilities that are possible…I just love the thinks I think up!

change is happening

This journal is going through big changes…I’m planning to write more on my whole writing and publishing a picture book experience.  I’m thinking 30 days of daily posts starting June 21st and possibly extended throughout the summer.  There’s going to be design changes for the blog and nothing major but just making sure everything is cohesive. Really who knows, but it’s all good.  My book will launch on my birthday…yeah that would be a great gift I will use my blog to promote my wise trees book and there’ll be giveaways like limited edition prints for the first few who purchase my book…there’s lots more ideas. I’m super excited!

Daily Prompt: Core

…love, art and every drop of paint I use to draw a phrase or these days trees. At my core is a sensitive soul who loves people. That makes me vulnerable and sometimes I say the wrong things. At my core is a song, dance, tear, laugh, love, hope, and a whisper…a voice that tells me I am free if only I believe it to be true.  Imagination, curiosity and weirdness are also at my core.

All I can do as an artist is to do just that with every word and picture I paint. Knowing what’s at the core of you and of your art is what it’s all about.

thoughts are things

How do you know you got it? How do you know you’ve got something to flaunt? I say it’s time to flaunt when I’m sitting with a, as I like to say, a giggle smile. When I get this idea and all I think about is transferring this idea from my mind to paper. I think of color, and the right brush or…yeah see it all come together. It’s a feeling like no other. What of the guy who walks along the street swag in all… in the introduction to the Stay In Alive movie.  I say if you have a song to sing or a story to write then flaunt it.

Today I’m flaunting this…

I am proud of this tree and the book that it will be featured in. Wise trees is reminder to always follow your imagination and curiosity.

paint a pink tree with a q-tip…

pinktree2

I love the color pink and it’s important to surround yourself with what you love. Love brings out the best in you. It would be very hard to help someone be their best without love. There’s this other idea that you could be living your life and all of a sunned there’s this pink tree and it’s so beautiful. This is a great tree and I’m so glad it’s in the wise trees book. I’m so excited and I can’t wait to share it.

notes:

  • use a q-tip
  • or the back of the paint brush to make your dots
  • layer from light to dark
  • mix a little pink with brown to get a perfect shade of brown
  • mix a little brown with the pink and add water to get the perfect pink
  • this technique would be great for painting pomegranate seeds
  • have fun
  • create a journal entry on lessons this project has taught me

thoughts are things

Daily Prompt: Abrupt

There I am living-drifting at times and then Abruptly this idea emerges from the  sunny breeze.  There it is, even on a cold cloudy day as this may sometimes happen. What do you do with an idea? I love that book and I must answer. I think on the idea  and follow it. Or rather I hesitate but my curiosity and imagination have a mind of their own.

It’s wonderful when ideas like these happen abruptly

book projects, thoughts are things

thoughts are things

Today was a funny silly day…the kind of day you go through emotions and ponder life. I did and know that elements must change as nature always does. Out with the old and in with the NEW ever changing lovely ways of sweet lovable nature. Only sometimes love hurts, but that’s just the way it must be…honestly brutal. Or is it the other way around?

I sat and wondered about life–my life and my circumstances. Inside I thought why oh why does it take so long for a dream to surface. Others make it seem so easy walking along with the wind in their hair without so much as a care. Others struggle to hold on and the wind knocks them down again and again but the love that love never gives up. I witnessed this while watching Jane Eyre. I feel this as all the artists describe and share their latest collaborations. This very word Tantrum makes sense…when you have one, well nothing could spell out the truth so clearly as a tantrum.

I came upon the sketches I drew 5 minute style:

IMAG0044

My favorite is the top right one. Roots sticking out, sideways and all, branches broken, and yet still there is that little plant… a life. That’s where the tantrum happens. We cry and revolt against the status quote because we can not bear to be without what we truly want. No matter what we mustn’t let go. We must always feel–feel and revolt with our IMAGINATION, CURIOSITY AND ACTIONS. We can’t let go what simply is and therefore never die…

yeah today was a silly day but as my neighbor said, “I can’t complain.” I sure can’t. These are the final sketches for my wise trees book . We shall see. Continue reading “thoughts are things”

book projects

writing a picture book…

this week I have been working on lots of side projects, got a new painters pen and am working on a collaboration project.  I did finish editing most of the trees for the wise trees book.

Dedication Page

BEAUTIFUL trees inspired this book. This book is a reminder to always follow your curiosity and imagination. All trees were created with tempera paint, watercolor, ink, crayons, cotton swabs and other ordinary objects that create extraordinary trees.

Page 1

roxytree

Have you ever been curious about all the trees in the world? I have! Each one is a sight to be seen. Roxy loves them like bears love honey.  I love them best on a day that’s breezy and sunny.

Yes I think this is going to work. One page and 32 or so to go.  Working out so many details for the book like, fonts, layouts and edit a few dozen more times. I may add some more trees…who  knows.

notes:

  • use a simple.33 cents sponge craft brush
  • customize the brush bu cutting in strips and gluing it in different directions.
  • mix up the perfect tempera with acrylic or did I use acrylic?
  • create contrast by leaving white spaces hear and there
  • layer with darker tones for even more contrast
  • draw Roxy as cute as she really is
